“Durgotsab” : The biggest bengali festival

   Posted by: krity   in misc

Durga Puja (Bengali: দুর্গা পূজা, ‘Worship of Durga’), also referred as Durgotsab (‘Festival of Durga’) is an annual Bengali festival that celebrates worship of Hindu goddess Durga. It refers to all the six days observed as Mahalaya, Shashthi , Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and Bijoya Dashami. The dates of Durga Puja celebrations are set according to traditional Bengali Calendar and the fortnight corresponding the festival is called Debi Pokkho (Bengali: দেবী পক্ষ, ‘Fortnight of the Goddess’). Debi Pokkho is preceded by Mahalaya (Bengali: মহালয়া), the last day of the previous fortnight Pitri Pokkho (পিতৃ পক্ষ, ‘Fortnight of the Forefathers’), and is ended on Kojagori Lokkhi Puja (কোজাগরী লক্ষ্মী পূজা, ‘Worship of Goddess Lakshmi on Kojagori Full Moon Night’)

Durga Puja is widely celebrated in West Bengal and Tripura where it is a five-day annual holiday. Not only it is the biggest Hindu festival celebrated throughout the State, but also the most significant socio-cultural event in Bengali society. Apart from West Bengal, Durga Puja is also celebrated in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and in some parts of India including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Kashmir, Karnataka and Kerala. Durga Puja is also celebrated as a major festival in Nepal and Bangladesh. Nowadays, many non-residential Bengali cultural organizations arrange for Durgotsab in the countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Kuwait etc also.

The prominence of Durga Puja increased gradually during the British Raj in Bengal. After the Hindu reformists resemble Durga with India, she had become an icon for the Indian independence movement. On the first quarter of the 20th century, the tradition of Baroyari or Community Puja was popularised due to this. After independence, Durga Puja became one of the largest celebrated festivals in the whole world.

Durga Puja includes the worships of Shiva, Lakshmi, Ganesha, Saraswati, Kartikeya and Mahishasura also. Modern tradition have come to include the display of decorated pandals and artistically depicted idols of Durga, exchange of Bijoya Greetings and publication of Puja Annuals.

The ways in which the utsavv is referred as :

In Bengal, Durga Puja is also called Akalbodhan (অকালবোধন, ‘untimely awakening of Durga’), Sharadiya Puja (শারদীয়া পূজা, ‘autumnal worship’), Sharodotsab (শারদো সব, ‘festival of autumn’), Baro Puja (বড় পূজা, ‘grand puja’), Maayer Pujo (মায়ের পুজো, ‘worship of the Mother) or only referred as Puja or Pujo.

Silence .. I fear

   Posted by: krity   in Self-composed

Silence is the only thing I hear
Silence is what I always fear
Silence is something that I cannot bare,
For whatever happen I do not dare,

As silence fills the air
I begin to wish he was always there
I wish I hadn’t let him think about it.
And I hate that there’s nothing I could do.

I know that he is mine
Hoping everything to be fine
I love him more than anything
But still I fear of just onething.

And now silence is all that’s left
Leaving my soul bereft
The silence rings in my ears
and fills my heart with an unknown fear
The tears pouring out of my eyes
Waiting for the time when the silence dies.

Like a stone…

   Posted by: krity   in misc

I simply Loved the Lyrics of this song… “like a stone”

On a cold wet Afternoon
No room for love and emptiness
By a freeway
I confess I was lost in the pages
Of a book
Full of death
Reading how we’ll die alone
And if we are Good will lay to rest

Anywhere we want to go
In your house
I long to be
Room by room, Patiently
I’ll wait for you there
Like a stone
Ill wait for you there
Alone

And on my death bed
I will prey
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan
To anyone who will take me to heaven
To a place
I would recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The world was black
And there you led me on

In your house
I long to be
Room by room
Patiently
Ill wait for you there
Liek a stone
Ill wait for you there
Alone

In all I read
Till the day was gone
And I sat in regret
In all the things Ive done
For all that I’ve blessed
And all that I’ve wronged
In dreams till my death
I will wonder on….

In your house
I long to be
Room by room
Patiently
Ill wait for you there
Like a stone
Ill wait for you there
Alone
Alone

Sochti rehti hun..

   Posted by: krity   in Self-composed

Tanha jab rehti hun khayalo me tumhe paati hun,
Har jagah tumhe main mehsoos karti hun,
Apne saaye mein bhi main tumhe hi dekhti hun,
Kyun tum hi tum nazar aate ho sochti rehti hun.

Yeh kaisi hulchal hai dil me jo pehle na thi,
Har aahat se kyun main chounk uthti hun,
Nazar hamesha tumhe hi talashti rehti hai,
Aisa kyun lagta hai sochiti rehi hun..

Aate hi khayal tumhara, yun muskurane lagti hun,
Saamne na ho phir bhi kyun palak jhuk jaati hai,
Aankhen kholte hi tumhe samne paane ki tamanna hoti hai,
Yeh kaisi uljhan hai kya hua aaj mujhe,
Yeh sochti rehti hun…

The feeling of Nostalgia..

Posted by: krity   in My experiences

This is something I felt yesterday.. but couldn’t post it on the blog ’cause my internet was not working..

There I was sitting by the window of my lecturer’s cabin and waiting for her to return, looking outside the window. Wonderful weather…. It had been raining quite heavily since quite some time. Now its evening and I was wondering when I would be able to go back home. Just had one fruitful lecture for the day, so I had become tired just sitting and wasting time. Looking through the window, I could see a playground where young children are playing football, probably returned from school and enjoying there playtime in the drizzle. The sight made me feel nostalgic about my past. It reminded me of the days when I was a kid, playing in the ground with friends, getting wet in monsoon showers enjoying evening playtime, then getting scolded by mom. But I still cherish those days of childhood, the days of innocence, those were the fulfilled days which will never come back again. The thought of the past days are the good memories after all…….

A Relaxing Weekend..

Posted by: krity   in My experiences

Well I am talking about the weekend(15th aug-17th aug) I spent in Mumbai at my Aunt’s place. I had been thinking of blogging about it.. but things remained in my mind only because I became too busy with some assignments.. until now that I found some time to write about it..

Sitting in the balcony of my Aunt’s flat at Haji Ali, Mumbai, watching the tide in the Arabian sea, enjoying the cool breeze .. I began to wonder how busy one has become that one does not even find time for thyself…. I realised this when I took a break from my daily routine of going to college all through the week and otherwise always being with my laptop all through the day .. The initial thought of being away from my laptop was quite horrifying for me, was wondering how would I be away from my laptop and the internet.. but I was wrong.. I realised there was another world beyond computers. Computers and the internet are more of adiction to me than anything else.. There where lot of other things to do.. especially spending some time just for myself. Guess what I was away from the computers for three days..and I had time for myself..I read books that I wanted to read, did some sketching ,which i love doing but don’t get time to.. It was quite a relaxing weekend.. Though I was missing Pune for a few reasons but the amount of mental relaxation I had was enough to refresh me to get back to work again with the double the amount of energy…

Happy studying ..:)

A Wierd and frustrating day…

Posted by: krity   in My experiences

Has it ever happened with you that the whole day went very bad. One event after the other kept on happening but .. nothing was as you had expected things to go.. Today was one such bad days of my life.. One of the worst days..

The day went like this … I woke up early in the morning and found my table all messed up.. but thanks to maid.. I usually like to keep my things very spic and span..and hate anything being slightly misplaced..

I controlled my anger and went upto the kitchen to make a cup of coffee…was boiling the milk and the milk became ransid… again irritation.. came back to my table .. switched on the laptop ’cause I had some work on the internet and found that there was no electricity again I couldn’t do my work…Wanted to iron my clothes to wear to the college but again no electricity.. not hot water to take bath.. huh.. Iwas in a total mess.. to frustrated.. Finally got ready and went to college ..lectures boring.. followed by some bad arguments with a friend of mine.. Then I was supposed to get my designing assignment confirmed but that also didn’t happen. Nothing was going as I wanted things to be.. While returning again no auto-rickshaw to come back home.. Had to walk down all the way.. On my way back I thought I would buy some essentials from the IndiaBulls
store, but the articles were out of stock.. Then was walking back and a drunk wierdo was following up.. again bad and irritating… Now the dinner.. I dont eat kadhi, my maid knows that..and still she had made that only for dinner.. so again a bad dinner..

Now I actually dont know that how many of such worst incidents could happen in one day..

The Bloggers lunch : A rememberance

Posted by: krity   in My experiences

I know its late… almost a week .. but still I wanted to express my thoughts about the bloggers lunch, so I am writing about it now. I had been a little busy with my college activities as I had returned from home a few days back. Had missed a few days of college so had some pending tasks. After coming back from home I came to know about the bloggers lunch and became interested in attending it. I have not been doing a a lot of blogging but just got interested when I came to know about it. Well thanks to Rohit and Tarun actually because, it was them who had got me involved in it by providing me an opportunity to design the logo and banner for the Blogcamp, Mumbai. This made me further interested in opening a blog for myself and started writing into it and also attending the Blogcamp held at IIT Powai.

Attending the Bloggers lunch on the 7th June ‘08 was a result of this interest which has been growing with time. And there I was at the bloggers lunch arranged at Hotel Green Park, Baner. I was accompanied by my sister Isha ‘cause she had come to visit me for a few days. Thanks to Priyank for arranging such a wonderful lunch over which I got an opportunity to meet some bloggers in Pune and know them and also about the blogging world. Perhaps I didn’t talk much but sometimes even listening to people and their experiences is also helpful. Special thanks to Tarun and Rohit for planning the lunch where sharing of experiences as well as good food was cherished and enjoyed. The details about the lunch are already described by Bhavya , Priyank and Tarun , so I wouldn’t write the details again.
